Netflix used Stranger Things Day — Friday, November 6 — to announce a new live-action prequel series, "Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure," releasing a first teaser and a 2028 release window.
The series is set in the 1950s, decades before the events of the original show. It is co-created by Kate Trefry and the Duffer Brothers, with Joe Wright directing the first three episodes. The teaser opens on April 19, 1955, in Marion, Nevada, where an abandoned bicycle sits near a restricted area in the dead of night.
The announcement comes nearly a year after the flagship series ended — Season 5 Volume 1 arrived on November 26, 2025, and the finale, "The Rightside Up," aired on December 31, 2025. Netflix also marked the day by releasing the Season 5 blooper reel, featuring Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer and Maya Hawke, with Jamie Campbell Bower appearing in full Vecna prosthetics.
Netflix did not announce a secret ninth episode or a sixth season, despite fan theories — the confirmed Stranger Things Day releases were the prequel teaser and the blooper reel. The franchise continues beyond the prequel: an animated series, "Stranger Things: Tales From '85," is also in the pipeline.
Stranger Things Day falls on November 6, the date Will Byers disappeared in the show's story in 1983 — the event that set the series in motion.
