Vertical has released the first teaser trailer for "Lords of War," the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 crime thriller "Lord of War," bringing Nicolas Cage back as international arms dealer Yuri Orlov 22 years after the original film.
The 43-second teaser opens with Yuri, a cigarette in his mouth, standing before still-burning ruins, and sets up a father-son rivalry at the heart of the film. Bill Skarsgård plays Anton, Yuri's estranged son, a mercenary who has built a private army by exploiting America's conflicts in the Middle East — and who wants to outdo his father in the family business rather than stop him.
Andrew Niccol, who wrote and directed the 2005 original, returns as writer and director. Cage is the only returning cast member from the original film, and he also serves as a producer alongside Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi. The supporting cast includes Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks and Greg Tarzan Davis.
The sequel was announced at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, with Skarsgård attached from the start. Vertical acquired the U.S. distribution rights this year and will release the film, a U.S. and French co-production from Saturn Films and Vendôme Pictures, in theaters nationwide on January 22, 2027.
