Obama Rally for Harris, Former President Barack Obama headlined a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris in Georgia, aiming to energize Black voter turnout ahead of the election. Joined by celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson, Spike Lee, Tyler Perry, Senator Raphael Warnock, and Bruce Springsteen, Obama stressed that the election was about values and compassion, not just policies.
According to polling, Harris continues to enjoy significant support from Black voters, albeit somewhat less than Biden did in 2020. Speakers at the gathering, which drew 20,000 mostly Black voters from DeKalb County, emphasized the need to oppose Republican nominee Donald Trump by citing his past racial scandals.
Warnock reminded attendees of Trump’s past actions, including his promotion of conspiracy theories about Obama’s birthplace and his statements about the wrongly convicted Central Park Five. Perry and Obama addressed perceptions of strength, with Obama refuting that Trump’s behavior reflects true strength.
After Obama’s speech, many rally-goers departed, although some, like Nur Ali, expressed enthusiasm to vote for Harris due to policies like student loan forgiveness. Harris concluded by emphasizing her economic and social justice goals, portraying Trump as a threat to democracy.
During a rally in Duluth, Trump claimed that his economic ideas will benefit Black Americans more and accused Democrats of undervaluing their support. Trump supporter Antonio Kelly pointed to the past president’s track record of keeping his word, while D’Angelo praised Trump’s “America-first” strategy and contrasted it with Democrats’.
