Florida city votes to remove fluoride from drinking water, citing RFK Jr.’s comments as one of the reasons

A Florida City has voted to remove fluoride from its drinking water, citing concerns over its safety and comments made by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as part of its reasoning.

The city commission of Naples, Florida, voted 4-1 to stop adding fluoride to its drinking water, citing concerns over its potential impact on children’s health and IQ.

Commissioner Penny Taylor, who voted in favor of removing fluoride, cited comments made by Kennedy, an anti-vaccine advocate and environmental activist, as one reason for her decision.

“I’ve done a lot of research, and I’ve looked at a lot of information,” Taylor said. “And I have to say, I was particularly influenced by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s comments on the dangers of fluoride.”

Kennedy has been a vocal critic of fluoride, claiming it is a toxic substance that can cause a range of health problems, including reduced IQ in children.

However, the majority of scientific evidence suggests that fluoride is safe and effective in preventing tooth decay.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) all recommend fluoridation of drinking water as a safe and effective way to prevent tooth decay.

The decision to remove fluoride from Naples’ drinking water has been met with criticism from local health officials and dentists, who argue that it will put children’s oral health at risk.

“This is a step backward for our community,” said Dr. Jeffrey Pivor, a local dentist. “Fluoride is a proven way to prevent tooth decay, and removing it from our drinking water will only hurt our children’s oral health.”

The city’s decision to remove fluoride from its drinking water is expected to take effect in the coming months.
