Trump event gun incident, Vem Miller, 49, was detained for illegally possessing a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine close to a Donald Trump rally in Coachella, California. Miller, a Trump backer, was pulled over in a black SUV at a security checkpoint. He was arrested without incident, although he was later freed after posting $5,000 bail. Authorities from the federal government are still looking into the two misdemeanor firearms accusations against him.
Despite early worries, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco stated that neither Trump nor the rally goers were ever in danger. Suspicion was aroused by the car’s phony registration plate and several passports and driver’s licenses. Although there is no hard proof to back up Bianco’s theory that his officers stopped a third attempt on Trump’s life, he nonetheless made the suggestion. Trump campaign surrogate Bianco, a Republican, called Miller a “lunatic.”
Miller said he routinely keeps guns in his car but has never used them, refuting any intentions to hurt Trump. In addition, he denied being a member of the anti-government “Sovereign Citizens” movement, even though the group is connected to the handcrafted license plate.
Miller’s online activity indicates he is a right-wing activist and Trump supporter. He regularly attends pro-Trump events and promotes conspiracy theories on his website and chat show, where he claims to be an investigative journalist and filmmaker. He has also posted violent rhetoric against Democrats online.
This incident follows two earlier alleged assassination attempts on Trump this year, intensifying security around the former president as the election nears.
