While speaking in Los Angeles on Friday, Vice President JD Vance strongly criticized California leaders — particularly Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass — for allegedly putting federal law enforcement officers at risk.
Vance expressed alarm over reports that personal details, including home addresses and information about family members of federal agents, are being shared online by what he described as “far-left activists.” He said these actions are intended to intimidate and threaten law enforcement personnel.
“Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass need to put an end to this madness,” Vance said. “Every federal officer I met with today told me they feel abandoned by local leaders. They believe the governor and mayor are fueling this hostility.”
According to Vance, law enforcement agents, including Border Patrol officers, are being obstructed and sometimes confronted by aggressive protesters while trying to carry out their duties. He claimed these confrontations often happen within minutes of officers arriving on the scene.
“These agents are trying to do their jobs — sometimes arresting violent, undocumented criminals — and instead, they’re met with mobs,” he said. “This is happening because local leaders are emboldening these agitators by maintaining sanctuary policies. It sends a message that targeting federal agents is acceptable.”
Vance concluded by urging California’s leadership to take immediate action to support and protect federal law enforcement in the state.
