Elon Musk Forms the America Party, Elon Musk has unveiled the America Party, a fresh political alternative he says is aimed at restoring national freedom. The announcement, made on his platform X, comes amid a bitter fallout with Donald Trump. Musk accuses both Republicans and Democrats of destroying democracy through reckless spending and corruption.
The timing is strategic. Americans are increasingly frustrated with traditional political choices. Musk seeks to harness that dissatisfaction into a movement.
Breaking with Trump: A Public Feud Goes Political
Musk was once a close Trump supporter. He donated hundreds of millions to Trump’s 2024 run and served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. This body was charged with finding deep budget cuts.
But Musk left the role in May. He later accused Trump’s administration of hypocrisy and fiscal irresponsibility. The final straw was the passage of the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” Musk criticized it for ignoring the green economy and adding trillions to the national debt.
Tesla, SpaceX at Risk After Bill
The legislation offers no support for clean energy or electric vehicles. Musk’s Tesla, which relies on subsidies and eco-incentives, could be hit hard. Trump mocked Musk on Truth Social, calling him the largest subsidy recipient in U.S. history.
“Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop,” Trump said.
He also suggested DOGE might investigate Musk’s contracts with SpaceX and Starlink. These firms are vital to both U.S. and NATO defense operations.
America Party: A Response to Public Demand
Earlier this year, Musk posted a poll asking whether Americans wanted a new political party. A large majority said yes. Referencing that poll in his Saturday post, Musk wrote:
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!”
He blasted the current system as a “one-party state” that masquerades as a democracy.
Still Waiting for Official Recognition
The Federal Election Commission has not confirmed the party’s registration. This hasn’t stopped speculation. Political commentators debate whether Musk can turn online enthusiasm into real-world votes.
No leader for the America Party has been named. Musk cannot run for president himself due to constitutional limits on foreign-born citizens.
Third Parties in U.S. Politics: An Uphill Battle
History is unkind to third-party movements. The Green Party, Libertarians, and others have made noise but gained little traction. Musk may change that equation with money, visibility, and influence.
He controls media through X. He has a passionate following. He is one of the wealthiest and most polarizing figures in the country.

The road ahead is uncertain. Registration, candidate selection, and ballot access will take time. But Musk’s commitment seems genuine. The political status quo is facing a new threat.
