Trump assassination attempt rally, Shortly after escaping an attempted assassination, Donald Trump spoke to fans at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In addition to leaving two onlookers gravely injured and Corey Competore, a volunteer fire chief, dead, Trump was hit in the ear by a bullet during the July 13 incident.

“Time stood still for fifteen seconds,” Trump said to the assembly. “This ferocious creature let evil loose… however, the villain’s objective was not achieved.

Following two attempts on Trump’s life, the most recent one at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, security was heightened at the gathering. Alongside Trump were his running mate JD Vance, son Eric Trump, daughter-in-law Lara Trump, and tech billionaire Elon Musk, who endorsed Trump after the earlier shooting.

Trump’s speech focused on familiar themes, criticizing a “corrupt system,” promising to bring back “respect” in U.S. foreign policy, and vowing to shut the “open border” that he claims is fueling crime. He also referenced the assassination attempt, accusing his political opponents of “slandering” him and “maybe even trying to kill me.”

Referring to Competore as a “folk hero,” he observed a moment of silence in his honor. Trump invited Musk to the platform and complimented him as well. Musk called the election “the most important of our lifetime” and urged people to register to vote.

At the demonstration, thousands of people gathered, causing traffic jams in the small town while attendees queued for hours to get inside. While some Trump supporters, like retired Marine Teresa Wilson, praised his fortitude in going back to the scene of the earlier attack, others, like Jessenia Anderson, voiced worries about inflation and the state of the economy. Rapper Sean Moon, one of Trump’s main fans, expressed disapproval of the way the border between the United States and Mexico is being handled.

Pennsylvania is a crucial battleground state where Trump and Kamala Harris are locked in a close race with 31 days to go before the election. The two are almost matched in polls, with Harris ahead of Trump by a mere 1%.
