Trump and Harris charity jokes, Less than three weeks remain before the US presidential election. Donald Trump and Kamala Harris attended the annual Al Smith charity dinner, which is usually a fun occasion. But there was more to the evening than just friendly banter. Harris submitted a video, but Trump was present in person. These four instances from the evening stand out in memory:
“I’ve had enough shots taken at me,” Trump quips
Trump joked about how he’s been the target of both literal and figurative attacks during his campaign. He mentioned that he had survived two assassination attempts, one of which had occurred in July in Pennsylvania. “It’s really a pleasure anywhere in New York without a subpoena for my appearance,” he remarked in reference to his legal troubles.
Trump ‘likes’ Biden, jabs at Harris
Trump made light of the fact that, despite their rivalry in 2020, he now loves Joe Biden “quite a bit” after the former senator withdrew from the contest in July. Harris, on the other hand, hinted that he would like her as well, but “when we win.” In addition, he made fun of Harris’s absence from the function, teasing that she was “hunting” with her jogging partner Tim Walz.
Harris needles Trump with the Ten Commandments
In a pre-recorded skit, Harris teamed up with Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon. In the skit, Shannon’s persona cautioned Harris against lying by making reference to the Ten Commandments. With a playful jab at Trump’s efforts to rig the 2020 election, Harris snapped back, saying, “Especially thy neighbour’s election results.”
“Biden couldn’t be here tonight,” host mocks
Comedian and host Jim Gaffigan took a jab at Biden, who withdrew from the presidential race in July. “President Biden couldn’t be here tonight,” Gaffigan joked, adding, “The DNC made sure of that,” referencing the pressure Biden faced to exit the race.
Despite the evening’s charitable purpose, the candidates’ sharp humor reflected the intensity of the race ahead.
