4 men killed in multivehicle crash on NJ Turnpike in Salem County

Four men were killed following a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Salem County early Sunday morning, state police say.


It happened at 12:42 a.m. on the turnpike south near milepost 1.3. in Carneys Point Township.
State police say a 41-year-old Colorado man was in a Dodge pickup traveling north in the southbound lanes.

Yaakov Kilberg, a 19-year-old from Lakewood, was driving south in a Mazda SUV and in the left inner lane. Three passengers were inside the vehicle.

Near the milepost, a head-on collision occurred between the Dodge and Mazda.

After the collision, the Mazda was struck by a Freightliner tractor-trailer that was driven by a 29-year-old man from Nova Scotia. The Freightliner had been traveling in the right line behind the Mazda.

As result of the crash, Kilberg, 18-year-old Aharon Lebovits, 18-year-old Shlomo Cohen, both of Lakewood were killed. Chaim Grossman, an 18-year-old from Fallsburg, New York, was also killed.

The driver of the Dodge was also seriously injured while the driver of Freightliner was not injured.
