The trolls can keep throwing stones, but Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are not on the rocks. The Duke of Sussex addressed speculation about his relationship with wife Duchess Meghan during an appearance at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit on Wednesday. The British royals have been married since 2018.
A Legacy of Controversy
Harry and Meghan sparked major controversy in 2020 when they stepped down from their duties as senior royals, later moving to California. The couple shares two children: Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. Despite their decision to leave the royal family, the couple has continued to face intense public scrutiny.
Navigating the Spotlight
During his conversation with Times columnist and DealBook founder Andrew Ross Sorkin, Prince Harry was asked how he navigates the intense public scrutiny that comes with his level of fame, which is often aimed at his relationship status with Duchess Meghan. “There’s articles left and right about, you know, ‘Why are you doing independent events? Why aren’t you doing them together?'” Sorkin said. “Is that a good thing for you, in a way, that there’s so much interest in you?”
A United Front
Prince Harry reflected that the media speculation is “definitely not a good thing,” adding: “We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So, it’s just like, what?” “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it,” Harry continued. “The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, … and then it doesn’t happen. So, I feel sorry for them.”
Despite Rumors, a Strong Partnership
Despite the relentless rumor mill, Harry and Meghan have shown a united front in supporting each other’s humanitarian efforts. In May, the couple visited a school in Nigeria as part of celebrations for the 10th anniversary of Harry’s Invictus Games. Two months later, Meghan made a surprise appearance at the ESPY Awards, where Harry was honored with the Pat Tillman Award for Service.
A Supportive Partner
The Duchess of Sussex reflected on her relationship with Harry during an appearance at the SXSW festival in March. While discussing the negative influence of social media on mothers, Meghan praised Harry for his constant support. “I’m fortunate in that amongst the privileges that I have in my life, I have an incredible partner,” Meghan said at the time. “My husband is such a hands-on dad and such a supporter of me and our family, and that I don’t take for granted. That is a real blessing but a lot of people don’t have that same level of support.”
A Stronger Bond
Despite the challenges they face, Harry and Meghan’s bond appears stronger than ever. The couple’s commitment to each other and their humanitarian work is a testament to their enduring love and partnership. As they continue to navigate the complexities of royal life, one thing is clear: Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are a united front, and nothing can come between them.
