Niall Horan on Liam Payne death, Following the passing of his former bandmate Liam Payne from One Direction, Niall Horan has expressed his sadness. Payne, who had come to Buenos Aires to see Horan sing live on tour, passed away on Wednesday.
“It just doesn’t feel real,” Horan said on Instagram, expressing his emotions. Thinking back to their latest encounter, he said he never thought it would be their final meeting. “I feel so fortunate that I got to see him recently,” Horan continued, characterizing Payne as a person who constantly made others happy and had an infectious enthusiasm for life and work.
The 31-year-old Horan talked about how the two had shared innumerable giggles over the years, developing a close relationship that he would always treasure. “The connection and companionship we shared is rare in life,” he remarked, extending his sympathies to Payne’s relatives.
After One Direction broke up in 2016, Payne and Horan stayed in touch, even going to one of Horan’s most recent gigs. Payne shared videos of himself and his girlfriend appreciating Horan’s performance on social media.
Horan was the last of the One Direction members to release a statement on Payne’s death, after Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik all shared their grief. The band also released a joint statement, asking for time to process the loss.
Harry Styles said his “heart breaks” for Payne’s family, and Louis Tomlinson described him as a vital part of One Direction with a special gift for writing.
Zayn Malik praised Payne’s positivity and smile in his tribute. Ed Sheeran, who co-wrote Payne’s debut solo single, expressed being “at a loss for words” and remembered Payne fondly.Robbie Williams, who performed with One Direction on The X Factor, paid tribute as well, noting Payne’s struggles with fame and mental health, and encouraging fans to show more compassion to others.
Payne had been open in recent years about his battles with alcohol and the pressures of fame, which had taken a toll on his mental health.
