Newsom’s Wife Says Her Children Will Never See Trump as an “Acceptable Leader,” Blames His Upbringing

California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of Governor Gavin Newsom, delivered one of her sharpest rebukes yet of President Donald Trump, declaring that her children will never grow up seeing him as an “acceptable leader.” Read More

Speaking at a public event this week, Siebel Newsom accused Trump of corrupting American values and attacking the foundations of democracy. Her remarks, initially framed as a reflection on leadership and parenting, quickly evolved into a full-throated condemnation of the president’s conduct and character.

“Trump isn’t leading America — he’s enriching himself, his family, and his cronies,” she said. “He’s stripping away our rights and undermining our democracy. When he knows he’s going to lose, he cheats. When the game isn’t rigged for him, he rigs it himself.”

Siebel Newsom, a filmmaker and longtime advocate for gender equality, said she refuses to let her children view Trump’s behavior as normal or acceptable. “As a mother, I want my kids to know that integrity, empathy, and honesty are what define leadership — not bullying, greed, or lies,” she said.

Her comments drew both applause and criticism online, with supporters praising her courage and critics accusing her of politicizing motherhood. Still, Siebel Newsom made it clear she stands by her convictions.

“Sometimes ‘no’ is a full sentence,” she said pointedly. “But Donald Trump has never accepted ‘no’ for an answer. He’s a con artist, a predator, a malignant narcissist — and the worst president in our nation’s history.”

The remarks come as political tensions between Trump and California officials continue to rise. Governor Gavin Newsom has been one of Trump’s most vocal critics, clashing with the White House over climate policy, immigration, and federal disaster aid.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom has often taken a more personal tone than her husband, focusing her criticisms on Trump’s example as a public figure and role model. “Leaders should lift others up, not tear them down,” she said during a previous speech in Los Angeles.

Analysts note that Siebel Newsom’s comments reflect growing frustration among many Democrats who believe Trump’s leadership style has eroded political norms and emboldened extremism. Her remarks also highlight how the 2025 political climate has become increasingly personal, as families — including political ones — frame their opposition to Trump as a matter of moral conviction rather than just policy disagreement.

Despite backlash from conservative circles, Siebel Newsom’s message appears to resonate with a segment of voters weary of division and scandal. “This isn’t about party,” she concluded. “It’s about the kind of country we want our children to inherit.”
