Campaigns frequently employ similar tactics, including giving away stuff, to create voter databases, but paying people raises ethical concerns. Musk has previously made an attention-grabbing $47 offer to anyone who could persuade a swing-state voter to sign the petition.

Democratic governor of Pennsylvania and Kamala Harris supporter Josh Shapiro has voiced concerns about Musk’s approach and suggested that law authorities look into it. Since its July founding, Musk’s AmericaPAC has raised $75 million to aid Trump’s campaign. The group advocates for principles including safe borders, gun rights, and free speech.
