A curfew violation led to the arrest of two individuals near Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence in Brentwood early Saturday. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a reported break-in, but found no evidence of the crime. Instead, they apprehended two people for breaching the curfew implemented to prevent looting in evacuated areas.
The Palisades Fire, which has ravaged nearly 24,000 acres and destroyed thousands of structures since Tuesday, prompted an evacuation order in Harris’ neighborhood. The fire’s sudden change in direction threatened homes in the Brentwood area and Mandeville Canyon.
To combat potential looting and ensure firefighters’ safety, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna imposed a curfew from sundown to sunrise in areas under evacuation orders and warnings.
The two individuals were taken into custody around 4:30 AM Saturday after the LAPD received a report of a burglary. However, the origin of the call remains unclear. Vice President Harris’ office has not commented on the incident.
