During a recent episode of Gutfeld!, Fox News host Greg Gutfeld weighed in on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s latest viral controversy — and predicted that her political future might take a hit because of it.
The situation began when AOC took a personal jab at former Trump adviser Stephen Miller during an online livestream, poking fun at his height. The comment quickly drew backlash across social media, with many accusing her of body-shaming. Miller responded publicly, clarifying that he’s 5′10″ — not short — and accused AOC of pettiness and hypocrisy.
Faced with criticism, Ocasio-Cortez issued what she called an apology — though it didn’t sound much like one. She defended her comment by declaring her “love for short kings,” a phrase that social media users immediately labeled as sarcastic and tone-deaf. What was meant to be damage control only seemed to stir up more mockery and debate.
On his show, Gutfeld mocked AOC’s apology and argued that her pattern of defensive, attention-seeking behavior could hurt her credibility in the long run. “Every time she tries to be clever, she ends up alienating more people than she wins over,” he said, suggesting that AOC’s social media antics might backfire as her political career matures.
The Gutfeld! panel echoed his view, calling her “more focused on being an influencer than a legislator.” They also pointed out that AOC’s half-hearted apology reinforced the perception that she struggles to admit mistakes — something that could weaken her image among moderate Democrats.
Meanwhile, AOC’s defenders online tried to reframe the controversy as humor taken out of context, but even some of her usual supporters admitted that the “short kings” apology was poorly handled.
The moment has since become another example of how easily AOC’s social media presence can overshadow her policy work. As Greg Gutfeld put it, “If she keeps treating politics like Twitter, politics might soon treat her the same way — disposable and replaceable.”
