Overview of the Sale
Chris Giles, a prominent owner in National Hunt racing, is set to auction off a select group of horses at the Goffs UK Summer Sale. This move allows Giles to dedicate more time to his young family, marking the second such dispersal this year. Among the notable entries is Stay Away Fay, who has achieved Grade 1 success, along with other promising prospects like Rubaud and Regent’s Stroll.
Notable Entries
Juliet Minton of Mill House Stud is overseeing the consignment, which includes horses from Giles’s stable and additions from Caolan Woods. The sale, traditionally held in August, has been rescheduled to a different time in the calendar for Goffs UK Summer Sale.
Stay Away Fay – A Highlight
Stay Away Fay, listed as lot 72, is a standout in the lineup, having triumphed in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. This seven-year-old gelding, trained by Paul Nicholls, also secured the Grade 2 Esher Novices’ Chase at Sandown at Goffs UK Summer Sale.
Rubaud – Leading the Auction
Leading the auction is Rubaud (lot 65) in Goffs UK Summer Sale, last year’s winner of the Grade 2 Scottish Champion Hurdle and the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle. The six-year-old is a sibling of Francin, who performed well in the Grade 3 Poplar Square Chase.
Regent’s Stroll – Rising Star
Another horse attracting attention is Regent’s Stroll (lot 67), a five-year-old sired by Walk In The Park, renowned in National Hunt circles. Bought for £175,000 as a store at Doncaster, he recently claimed victory in the Goffs Spring Sale Bumper at Newbury, remaining unbeaten in his bumper starts.
Rocket Scientist – Young Talent
Also generating interest is Rocket Scientist (lot 73), a four-year-old by Blue Bresil and the first offspring of Potters Den, related to the accomplished Polly Peachum.
Histrionic and Other Prospects
Among the younger prospects is Histrionic (lot 71), purchased for €450,000 and notable for his successes in Ireland. This five-year-old by Walk In The Park is out of Flemensbay, a relative of Kimberlite Candy, a winner at Cheltenham Festival.
Byzantium and Jackpot D’Athou
Byzantium (lot 69), a four-year-old debutant in France, and Jackpot D’Athou (lot 68), a Doctor Dino gelding and full-brother to Hester D’Athon, also add depth to the auction. Both horses have shown promise in their respective careers.
Tim Kent’s Comments
Tim Kent, managing director of Goffs UK, expressed gratitude to Giles for entrusting them with such a high-caliber draft. “This collection includes both young talents and proven performers like Stay Away Fay and Regent’s Stroll,” Kent remarked.
Additional Offerings
In addition to the horses in training, Giles is offering Jenny Wyse and her Walk In The Park filly foal (lot 75). The Mill House draft encompasses a variety of pedigrees, including July Flower (lot 96), a notable mare with impressive lineage.
The sale, commencing at 10am, promises to attract a wide array of prospective buyers keen on acquiring these exceptional horses.
