Eight people were injured on Sunday afternoon after a man launched a violent attack using what police described as a “makeshift flamethrower” and “Molotov cocktails” during a peaceful march in downtown Boulder. The incident occurred at approximately 1:26 p.m. local time (8:26 p.m. BST) during a weekly “Run for Their Lives” event, which raises awareness for Israeli hostages being held in Gaza.
According to the FBI, the event was a “regularly scheduled, weekly, peaceful gathering” that had taken place without incident in the past. Witnesses say the attacker, identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national, shouted “Free Palestine” while launching his assault on the group.
Authorities confirmed that Soliman has been taken into custody. Boulder police stated they are “fairly confident” that he acted alone and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
Victims and Injuries
The victims include four women and four men, ranging in age from 52 to 88 years old. All were transported to hospitals in the Denver metro area. At least one person remains in critical condition. Victims are being treated for burn injuries and other trauma resulting from the fire-based attack.

In response to the attack, Boulder County prosecutors emphasized their commitment to justice, stating they are “fully united 100%” in ensuring the suspect is held accountable for his actions. Local police have also announced plans to increase security around Jewish events and gatherings in the coming days to ensure public safety.
The Boulder County Historic Courthouse, located near the site of the incident, will remain closed on Monday as authorities continue their investigation.
