An active shooter incident unfolded Wednesday morning at an ICE facility in Dallas, leaving several detainees in federal custody wounded. According to police, the attacker was a sniper armed with a rifle who opened fire from a rooftop. Authorities identified the gunman as a white male who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when agents moved in on his position.
Three detainees were confirmed shot, with one victim pronounced dead and others reported in critical condition. Police said the total number of victims remains uncertain, with conflicting reports suggesting up to four additional people may have been struck by gunfire. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, and a large police presence was seen near the facility off I-35E by Empire Central.
Investigators have not yet determined whether the shooter fired from the ICE building itself or from a nearby rooftop. The incident comes after a string of recent threats and attacks targeting ICE facilities in Texas. Just last month, a man was arrested after arriving at the Dallas Field Office with what he claimed was a bomb detonator, prompting a lockdown and bomb squad response. Earlier this week, six women faced federal charges in connection with an attack on an Alvarado police officer tied to ICE-related unrest.
The Dallas investigation is still underway as authorities work to clarify the full scope of injuries and the circumstances leading up to the sniper assault.
