President Claims California Sent “Tens of Millions” of Ballots in 2020 and Beyond
President Donald Trump has announced that he is preparing a massive lawsuit against California Governor Gavin Newsom, accusing the state of sending out “tens of millions of ballots” during elections — including instances where residents allegedly received “two or even three ballots each.” Read More
Trump made the remarks during a recent appearance, arguing that California’s widespread vote-by-mail system is “corrupt” and “designed for fraud.”
Trump: ‘Many People Got Multiple Ballots’
In his statement, Trump claimed that California’s universal mail-in voting process lacked safeguards and oversight.
“California sends out tens of millions of ballots — many people get two and three ballots!” Trump said, calling the system “a disgrace to American democracy.”
He argued that this practice undermines election integrity and creates what he called “the most chaotic mail-ballot system in the country.”
Legal Team Preparing a Lawsuit
According to Trump, his legal team is finalizing a lawsuit targeting Gov. Newsom and the state of California. He said the lawsuit will focus on the legality and constitutionality of California’s “mass ballot distribution,” which he argues violates federal standards for secure elections.
The lawsuit is expected to challenge:
-
The automatic mailing of ballots to all registered voters
-
Lack of standard ballot-tracking procedures
-
Alleged duplicate ballots sent to households
Trump said the action is necessary to “restore trust in America’s elections.”
California Defends Its Mail-In System
California state officials have repeatedly defended their system, arguing that sending a ballot to every registered voter increases participation and includes tracking systems to prevent double voting.
Newsom’s office has previously dismissed Trump’s claims as “baseless political theater,” though they have not yet responded to Trump’s newest comments.
Mail-In Voting Has Long Been a Flashpoint
California has used expansive mail-in voting for several election cycles, but Trump has routinely criticized the model, claiming it opens the door to fraud — a position that has energized his supporters.
Election officials, however, have maintained that duplicate ballots do not allow duplicate votes because verification systems flag discrepancies.
Trump: Lawsuit Will Be ‘Historic’
Trump emphasized that the lawsuit will be “one of the biggest election cases ever filed,” saying it will expose what he describes as “a broken and corrupt voting process in California.”
He said he intends for the case to serve as a national example to push for tighter vote-by-mail regulations.
