Louisiana reports the first U.S. death from H5N1 bird flu.

A Louisiana man’s death has been linked to a rare and deadly bird flu virus, state health officials said.

The Louisiana Department of Health said the man, who was not identified, had been in close contact with birds that had the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that the man’s death was caused by the H5N1 virus, also known as avian influenza.

The CDC said the risk of transmission to humans is low, but people who have close contact with infected birds are at higher risk.

Symptoms of bird flu can range from mild to severe and include fever, cough, sore throat, and muscle aches.

The Louisiana Department of Health is investigating the source of the infection and is working with the CDC to monitor for any potential cases.

This is the first reported human death from bird flu in Louisiana.
