The Biden Administration Plans to Sell $8 Billion Worth of Arms to Israel

The Biden administration has informed Congress of its intention to sell $8 billion worth of arms to Israel. This proposed sale includes a wide range of military equipment, such as ammunition for fighter jets and attack helicopters, artillery shells, precision-guided bombs, and warheads.

The announcement comes at a time when Israel is engaged in a military operation in Gaza, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread international condemnation.

Despite the controversy surrounding Israel’s actions, the Biden administration has decided to move forward with the arms sale. This decision is likely to face criticism from progressive lawmakers and human rights organizations, who have long argued that the US should condition its military aid to Israel on improvements to its human rights record.

The proposed sale includes various types of military equipment, such as:

– Ammunition for F-15 and F-16 fighter jets
– Hellfire missiles for AH-64 Apache attack helicopters
– Artillery shells, including 155mm high-explosive shells
– Precision-guided bombs, including 250-pound and 500-pound bombs
– Warheads, including bunker-busting warheads

According to the State Department, the sale aims to support US foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a key strategic partner.

The proposed sale will undergo review by the House and Senate foreign relations committees.
