Calm Before the Storm: Voting Begins in Battleground States

Table of Content

Battleground State Voting, Voting has commenced in the crucial battleground states that will determine the next US president, with Vice-President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump vying for the top spot. Reports from the ground indicate a calm and occasionally festive atmosphere at polling stations, with many voters casting their ballots early, resulting in relatively empty polling booths ¹. Georgia will be the first to close its polls at 19:00 EST, followed by the other six key swing states, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada, all wrapping up by 22:00 EST.

In Philadelphia, voters were greeted with music and a festive atmosphere, while in North Carolina, a generator-powered tent was set up as a polling location after the original site was damaged in Hurricane Helene. In Michigan, Harris is hoping for a massive voter turnout to make up for Trump’s expected wins in rural areas. Wisconsin remains a tossup, with Democrats feeling enthusiastic about their get-out-the-vote efforts. Arizona and Nevada are also seeing steady streams of voters, with abortion rights and economic issues driving voters to the polls.

The country is watching Pennsylvania closely, which went to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020 and has 19 electoral votes at stake. Economics and abortion issues are top of mind, with Trump aiming to take a greater-than-anticipated share of the state’s Latino population. The outcome of these battleground states will be crucial in determining the next US president.
