ICE Arrests Chicago-Area Police Officer, Accuses Him of Living in U.S. Illegally

ICE officials say Radule Bojovic, an officer with the Hanover Park Police Department, was arrested Thursday morning during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in Illinois.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Bojovic is a native of Montenegro who entered the United States on a tourist visa that expired in 2015. Federal authorities claim he remained in the country after the visa’s expiration and later joined local law enforcement despite lacking legal status.

In a statement to CNN, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin criticized the situation, saying,

> “Radule Bojovic violated our nation’s laws and was living illegally in the United States for 10 years. What kind of police department gives criminal illegal aliens badges and guns? It’s a felony for aliens to even possess a firearm. A law enforcement officer who is actively breaking the law.”

The Hanover Park Police Department had previously highlighted Bojovic’s career progress on Facebook, celebrating his graduation from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy in August and noting that he had entered a 15-week field training program to prepare for active duty.

Neither Bojovic nor the police department has responded publicly to the arrest. CNN has reached out to both for comment.

This incident follows another high-profile ICE case last month in which agents arrested the superintendent of Iowa’s largest school district, accusing him of living illegally in the U.S. since the early 2000s. That individual was later charged with unrelated firearm offenses.
